This FAR Profile outlines some of FAR's key achievements in the past five years as well as our goals through to 2026.

FAR goals:

  • Enhancing the profitability of arable farm systems while protecting and enhancing the natural environment for the benefit of current and future generations 
  • Supporting capability building in the arable sector to ensure a foundation of skilled, fit for purpose growers is available to meet the sectors future needs 
  • Working with other sectors to address national environment challenges and exploring integrated farm systems that enhance the profitability of arable cropping 
  • Providing growers with new knowledge, technologies and tools that deliver on-farm efficiencies and innovations for enhanced profitability and resilience 
  • Being recognised and respected by the arable sector for conducting quality research and delivering benefits to arable farm systems

Farm-saved seed royalty system

Farmers who save and replant legally protected cereal varieties can voluntarily declare their usage and pay a breeder royalty. The declaration system applies to all farm saved seed barley, and to farmer saved wheat if the resultant wheat crop does not pass through an end-point royalty collection agent.
