The Government has confirmed the next three regions to ‘go live’ with freshwater farm plans (FWFPs) in early 2024: Otago, the West Coast and Manawatū-Whanganui.
The rollout will be staged across each region between early 2024 and late 2025, meaning farmers and growers in some catchments (or Freshwater Management Units (FMUs)) will need their freshwater farm plans before those in other catchments.
The rollout timeframes are as per the table below. Once the regulations have been ‘switched on’ in an FMU, growers have 18 months to develop a FWFP and submit it for certification.
FAR will be supporting growers with their FWFP requirements as the rollout progresses. For more information contact Hannah.Ritchie@far.org.nz.
