  • New Seed Certification System Is Live

New seed certification system is live

The Seed Certification Information System (SCIS) became the official system for the tracking and management of seed varietal certification processes for the 2024-25 harvest season this week (Tuesday 26th March).

Growers, Merchants, and IVA Users

At this stage, user registration is required for Growers, Merchants and those completing IVA functions. The system will be accessible to all growers wishing to process their crop applications, regardless of crop type. Those of you who have kale entries for this season will be prioritised as the first users of the new system. Most of you will have already been involved in discussions, demonstrations and a complete run through the Growers Application process for these crops in the SCIS UAT (User Acceptance Test) system.

As a Merchant or Grower to obtain your SCIS log-in you will need to:

  1. Contact the AsureQuality Seed Bureau team via email seed@asurequality.com or phone. All that is required for your registration is:
    1. the name of your business entity
    2. family name and first name for each individual user
    3. email address for each individual user
    4. contact phone number (mobile is preferred) for each individual user
  2. Set your own password. You will receive an email with a link that takes you to a screen that allows you to set your own log-in password. If you don’t see the email after a few minutes check your Junk/Spam folder.
  3. Sign into SCIS. The final step of this process involves your first sign in to SCIS at https://nzseedsauthority.com/ using your SCIS user account and your own password (set in the previous step)

A guide to this initial “log in” process is available at https://guide.nzseedsauthority.com/ along with user guides for Growers and Merchants and videos for Growers to help with use of SCIS for creating Growers Applications and managing crops.

Please note that users who have attended previous SCIS training will have used the SCIS test system. This is not the same as the production system and you will need to ensure that any previous bookmark you have saved for the SCIS test system is replaced with https://nzseedsauthority.com/.

Processors, Laboratories and MPI Users
Processors, Laboratories and MPI will be able to use the system as the season progresses.

Support & Contact Details
Support for all users of the new system will be accessible via the following contact information during standard working hours (8:00am-5:00pm Monday to Friday):

  • AsureQuality – Email: seed@asurequality.com Phone: 06 3517962
  • NZSA – Email: info@nzseedsauthority.com

Outside of these specified hours, please leave a voicemail and your query will be attended to at the earliest opportunity.

Merchants and Growers who would like one-on-one support for their initial use of the system will be able to request this via the NZSA contact details outlined above. This support can be arranged in advance of go-live for this season’s Kale entries. We expect that NZSA team members will be available to travel to individual Merchant’s premises and on occasion to Grower’s premises or to meet at the Seeds Office at 185 Kirk Road, Templeton, Christchurch. This service may continue for a period as new users come into the system and would like one-on-one help with their initial crop entries.

Velvetleaf reminder

The Waikato Regional council is warning that any farmer harvesting or buying crops risks inviting one of the world’s most invasive pest plants onto their property – to their detriment. Velvetleaf, which is spread by machinery or via contaminated maize, is currently found on 105 properties in nine regions of the North Island: 61 in the Waikato, 20 in Auckland, 15 in Manawatū-Whanganui, three in Hawke’s Bay, two in Wellington, and one each in Northland, Taranaki, Gisborne and Bay of Plenty.
