The Hyperyielding Centre (HYC) in Tasmania is funded by GRDC and is part of a project led by FAR Australia in collaboration with Southern Farming Systems. This site takes cereal germplasm from the screening stage through to yield evaluations and then to Variety Specific Agronomy Packages (VSAPs). The project also aims to improve the information provided to users of feed grain cereals in order to better match the aspirations of both the producer and the end user.
Hyperyielding Cereal Project – Inaugural Field Day
The HYC in Tasmania held its inaugural event in November. Run along the lines of a smaller version of the FAR CROPS event, the field day gave growers and advisers a chance to see the latest germplasm from the Australian mainland and a sample of European wheat cultivars such as Einstein. Attendees had the opportunity to hear a range of speakers on topics such as agronomy and feed grain quality for the dairy industry. The keynote speaker was Patrick Stephenson from the UK.
