Overall spring barley yields for 2011-12 were close to the 4 year mean in the southern North Island (6.9 t/ha). However the yield in Canterbury was up on the 4 year mean at 8.5 t/ ha compared with 7.8 t/ha, reflecting the cooler and wetter season.
One of the regular trial sites (Chatton spring barley) is not reported due to flood damage. The CPT system has been running effectively for over thirty years. The success of the system has been paramount to the ongoing genetic improvement we have seen in cereal cultivars in New Zealand. This system relies on companies collaborating and including their cultivars for the overall good of the industry. CPT is the only independent source of information available when making decisions on cultivars.
We encourage you to use the information in these booklets to make sound cultivar decisions. FAR welcomes any queries or suggestions to further improve these booklets, or if you require any additional information that we have not included please contact us.
