- Amaze + Activtor gave very good control of bindweed and atrazine-resistant fathen. Amaze (without the activator) gave good oxalis control following Roustabout.
- Dicamba gave very good control of bindweed but not of oxalis,
- Emblem and Bromotril P provided rapid knockdown of fathen and bindweed and although there was some regrowth that shading provided by the maize crop appeared to limit its growth.
- Excellent control of pink bindweed and oxalis (following Roustabout) was achieved with the imidazolinone herbicide Lightning. This herbicide can only be used in imidazolinone tolerant (IT) or resistant (IR) maize.
- Foresite, although giving good control of oxalis, was not tolerated by the maize crop and Versatill did not provide sufficient activity against bindweed.
- March was the best pre-emergence herbicide for atrazine resistant fathen with 99% control when applied with Gesaprim. Of the other treatments, Roustabout reduced fathen numbers by about 85%, Dual plus Gesaprim by about 66% and Lasso by about 50%.
- Neither March nor Roustabout had any impact on oxalis.
