Key Points
- Between 290 – 330 kg/ha N (soil + applied) produced the optimum yield and protein combination for the best margin, using the FAR standard 2/3 (GS32) and 1/3 (GS39) split. However the amount required depends on yield potential.
- Splitting N timings to incorporate a late application of 40kg/ha at GS59 did not lead to higher yields when compared to the same amount applied at GS32 & GS39 (FAR standard). The addition of sulphur at GS32 did not lead to any significant increases in yield or protein, hence reducing margins.
