Key Points
- On a Templeton silt loam, irrigation during wheat grain fill GS61 – 89 produced a yield increase of 3.58 t/ha (58%) over the unirrigated crop.
- This yield increase was strongly correlated to extended green leaf retention and a resultant increase in thousand seed weight.
- In the near absence of foliar disease it was not possible to illustrate a significant link between strobilurin fungicide response and available soil water during grain fill, however there was a non significant trend for GS59 fungicide application to produce a greater yield response as soil water content increased (0.02 t/ha response unirrigated to 0.22 t/ha fully irrigated).
