Key Points
Screening trials have identified effective grass weed herbicides and these have now been tested for their effect on grain yield.
- The alternate and spring cultivars Impact and Otane tended to be more sensitive to herbicides than the winter cultivars Regency or Savannah, although these differences were non-significant.
- 2.0L/ha of Gardoprim appeared to be too high a rate for wheat. Lower doses in mixture with Bladex were probably more appropriate.
- Dash and Optic barley were more sensitive than the wheat cultivars to the herbicides tested.
- Simazine looked to be the least likely option for barley.
- Caution will be needed for cultivars not tested in these trials.
