Before burning any crop residues, or other material on farm, it is important to check the fire conditions for your area and to whether or not a permit is required. The best way to do this is on the website www.checkitsalright.nz. Simply enter your address and the type of fire you wish to light into the form on the website and it will provide all the required information, including a link to the on-line permit application form (if required).
One permit can cover a whole season's worth of crop residue burns, but as permits may take some time to be approved, it is wise to apply well in advance. Permit applications will not be considered during a prohibited fire season, so again, applying in advance is a good idea, as it allows you to be ready to burn as soon as the prohibited notice is lifted.
