Key points
- Elatus Plus is a new SDHI fungicide with the active ingredient benzovindiflupyr for the control of Septoria tritici blotch (STB), glume blotch, leaf rust and stripe rust in wheat.
- In one trial conducted at Leeston Elatus Plus mixed with a ¾ rate of either Opus (epoxiconazole) or Proline (prothioconazole) gave superior disease control to Adexar and Aviator Xpro® but similar yields.
- In a second trial that was not yielded due to severe lodging, all three SDHIs gave similar disease control.
- Phoenix is a new multisite fungicide with the active ingredient folpet for the protectant control of Septoria tritici blotch (STB) in wheat and scald in barley.
- When Phoenix was mixed with Opus in a two spray programme it gave additional control of STB compared with Opus alone but not a significant yield increase.
- When Phoenix was added either once at GS32 or twice at GS32 and GS39 to a three spray programme including SDHI there was no additional control of STB and no significant yield increase.
- The addition of Phoenix as a triazole partner could assist with the control of triazole insensitive strains of STB therefore slowing the development of STB resistance. It is the view of a number of independent overseas fungicide specialists that adding Phoenix to a triazole is of value as an anti-resistance practice.
