FAR’s latest Cereal Disease Management Strategy booklet provides up to date knowledge on agrichemical and integrated management of cereal diseases in New Zealand, including chemistry that has only come on the market in 2022. An updated version is due out in Spring 2024.
Prepared by Senior Cereal Researcher Jo Drummond, the 2022 Strategy builds on previous editions by summarising the results of FAR research conducted between 2020 and 2022. It provides an overview of the most important diseases currently affecting wheat and barley in New Zealand, summarises changes in the pathogens causing these diseases (overseas and in our arable systems) and outlines strategies for their management.
Jo says that a combination of consumer concerns, compliance demands along with shifts in pathogens and cultivar tolerance mean growers need to ensure that their chemical and broader management strategy is still fit for purpose.
