  • Far Encourages Arable Industry To Reduce Its Carbon Footprint

FAR encourages Arable Industry to reduce its carbon footprint

The Foundation for Arable Research (FAR) launches online levy return

A new vehicle to forward FAR levies is now available with the launch of the FAR online levy return form which can be completed and submitted via the FAR website.

Nick Pyke, FAR Chief Executive says: "traditionally, growers and industry have forwarded levies accompanied with carbon copy forms; not only does this result in huge printing requirements, which of course comes at a cost, but also generates vast amounts of postage and manual work for those completing the forms; the new online levy return aims to overcome these issues.

"We appreciate the sensitivity around the content submitted and as such have developed a secure network for any online submissions made to ensure there is no room for error."

Forms can be accessed for both maize and arable crops levy returns via the home page of the FAR websitehttps://www.far.org.nz.

Rachel Greenwood, FAR Communications Manager has tested the new form with a number of farmers and industry who are all in favour of the new submission method. "Not only does the form do all the workings out for you, but in time this new method will generate some valuable data collection which will assist FAR in developing a more accurate picture of the industry, how it has changed over time, the strengths and weaknesses of the industry and to identify some key risks and opportunities for the industry in the future."

In addition, many growers are becoming more conscious about the amount of paper they receive. It is FAR's intention to keep all New Zealand arable growers up to speed with the latest research and developments within their industry, FAR is therefore inviting growers to choose how they wish to continue to receive this information and will be inviting them to elect for one of two options: email or hard copy material.

Cereals Update 230 Winter wheat cultivar mixtures under irrigated and dryland conditions in Mid Canterbury

Planting a crop consisting of multiple cereal cultivars (cultivar mixtures) enhances genetic diversity, which can improve both seasonal and long-term agronomic performance and slow or reduce disease spread. To assess the viability of this approach for feed wheat production under current commercial conditions in New Zealand, FAR conducted a series of field trials in Chertsey, Mid Canterbury, between 2021 and 2024.
