What are greenhouse gases and how do they affect climate? Which GHGs are produced on arable farms and how can you measure them? This book provides a Greenhouse Gas 101 for New Zealand arable farmers. It provides the information you need to understand public discussions and start considering a management plan for your farm business.
About half (49.2%) of New Zealand’s greenhouse emissions in 2022 came from agriculture. Arable farms produce carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and, when livestock are in the mix, methane. This short book outlines where and how these GHGs are produced, how they can be measured and provides some background information on current and emerging market and regulatory implications. We'll update these as we learn more.
