We have now confirmed the speaker line-up for our national conference,Leading Research, Profitable Businesses, which is being held in Palmerston North on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 July.

The keynote speaker will be Australian weed management expert John Cameron, from Independent Consultants Network Australia (ICAN), whose presentation is entitled,Weeds and herbicide resistance – softening the landing with non-herbicide tactics!

Registrations are now open for the conference, which will feature indoor sessions on Farm Systems, Crop Agronomy and Maize, as well as field trips to view the farm systems in place at Hew Dalrymple’s Waitatapia Station, near Bulls, and the Malteurop malting plant at Marton. A conference dinner is being held on the Wednesday evening.

FAR CEO Nick Pyke says the conference, its theme and location all tie in with the organisation’s recently launched business strategy which focuses on great people, strong partners, leading research, excellent communication and profitable businesses.

“We have worked very hard to ensure that the conference programme offers something for all New Zealand growers, not just those who are based in the North Island. The Farm Systems session will look at cropping farms as a whole. Presentations in this session will cover issues around water and nutrients and recognise the close links between many cropping farms and the dairy industry. The Agronomy session will provide the latest research on how to grow high quality, high yielding crops, be they wheat, potatoes or barley. This is the session which will feature our keynote speaker, John Cameron, from ICAN in Australia. The Maize session will also include links with the dairy industry and discuss future initiatives for this important crop.”

The conference has been timed to line up with Federated Farmers’ National Conference and will incorporate the Grain and Seed Industry Group of Federated Farmers portion of that event. Additionally, registration for the FAR Conference, includes attendance of the Plenary Session of the Federated Farmers Conference.

FAR's 2014 Conference, Leading Research, Profitable Businesses, will be held at the Palmerston North Travelodge on the 2nd and 3rd July 2014. Full conference programme.
