Key Points
- The effect of herbicides (not all are currently registered for peas) on weed control, phytotoxicity and pea yield was measured over 3 seasons on both field and process pea cultivars.
- Post-emergence herbicides containing MCPB caused phytotoxic symptoms on the peas but the plants appeared to grow out of these fairly rapidly.
- Treatments including Spinnaker gave good weed control and some of the top yields.
- Sencor can cause significant plant damage. Yields were not reduced in these trials but tenderometer readings were.
- Bladex and Gardoprim can in some situations reduce yields (eg Eiffel, Prolific 2003).
- Choice of herbicide and weed control can significantly influence the Margin after Chemical costs.
