Wanted: FAR Scholar

FAR is once again offering a scholarship for postgraduate study at Lincoln or Massey University. The objective of the scholarship, which is valued at seven-thousand dollars, is to encourage research activities which will add value to the New Zealand arable farming sector.

The Scholarship is open to full-time students at Lincoln University or Massey University who are undertaking, or are eligible to proceed to, postgraduate research. They must be permanent New Zealand residents and their course of study must include a practical section of relevance to the arable industry.

Last year the FAR Scholarship was awarded to Massey University Masters student Julia Raynes, who is investigating options for improving the water use efficiency of white clover. She used the scholarship money to pay fees and buy a decent laptop – an integral data management tool. Julia also attended the FAR CROPS Expo at Chertsey in December where she made the most of the opportunity to view trial plots and talk to FAR staff and farmers about her project and about their hopes and concerns for arable cropping in New Zealand.

The Scholarship is for one year only and applications are considered by a selection committee made up of representatives from FAR, the University and the arable industry.
