Terbufos, prothiofos, methamidophos, fenamiphos withdrawal

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), has revoked the approvals for terbufos, prothiofos, methamidophos, fenamiphos.

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), has revoked the approvals for terbufos, prothiofos, methamidophos, fenamiphos and issued disposal notices for any pesticides containing these active ingredients.

This means no one may import, manufacture, use or store pesticides containing the revoked substances. They must be disposed of.

Gazette Notice for Terbufos-Containing and Prothiofos-Containing Substances

Failure to comply may be an offence under section 109 of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 (HSNO Act).

Deadlines for Substances containing prothiofos or terbufos

  • Since 1 July 2023, you must have ceased the import or manufacture of pesticides containing prothiofos or terbufos.
  • From 1 August 2023, you must not use pesticides containing prothiofos or terbufos
  • By 1 December 2023, any stock of these pesticides must be disposed of.
