He Waka Eke Noa Partnership - Our future in our hands

Feature placeholder

“A better approach for farmers”

FAR is an active member of He Waka Eke Noa, a partnership which has been established to address New Zealand’s obligations around greenhouse gas emissions. Partners include members of the agri-food and fibre sector, Government and iwi/Māori.

The key goal of He Waka Eke Noa is to develop practical and cost-effective systems for reducing emissions at farm level by 2025. This will ensure that farmers and growers have the knowledge and tools to reduce emissions and maintain profitability. There will also be linkages with other work programmes focusing on water quality and biodiversity. FAR’s involvement ensures that the views of arable growers are represented across all the work streams.

He Waka Eke Noa has eight initial work streams across a range of different topics to support farmers and growers with the knowledge and tools they need. These work streams are:

  1. On-farm emissions reporting
  2. On-farm sequestration
  3. On-farm emissions pricing
  4. Farm plans
  5. Māori agribusiness
  6. Extension
  7. Innovation and uptake
  8. Supporting early action

More information about He Waka Eke Noa can be found here.
