Faba beans (Vicia faba) have the potential to be a valuable component of the arable cropping rotation. They can improve soil fertility and structure, and when used as a break crop, they allow for alternative approaches to disease, pest and weed management.
This FAR Focus summarises three years of Faba bean research on topics such as; the effect of time of sowing and plant population on canopy structure and yield, how spring and winter bean cultivars compare when sown at different timings, fungicide strategies to best protect the crop throughout the growing season and the manipulation of the protein content.
