- In four field experiments, the plant growth regulators chlormequat chloride (CCC e.g. Cycocel) and Trinexapac-ethyl (TE – e.g. Moddus) were evaluated separately or in mixes at two timings (growth stage (GS)31-32 v 32-39).
- Optimum application rates increased seed yields 50 to 130% in the four experiments.
- In three of the four trials the highest seed yield was from a mix of CCC + TE 1.0 + 0.4 l/ha applied twice, at GS32 and GS38-39, while in the fourth trial this treatment was not significantly less than the highest seed yielding treatment.
- Seed yield increases were correlated with decreasing total stem length. For every 1 cm of stem shortening seed yield was increased by 12 and 16 kg/ha (average 13 cm).
