Farmers and growers are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the just-published 2023 Code of Practice for fertiliser nutrient management.
The Fertiliser Association of New Zealand’s Code of
Practice is a key resource tool for the management of nutrients on arable and
pastoral farms, horticulture and viticulture blocks, and market gardens.
The new Code is significantly different from the previous version. The Code focuses on the risks on farm and what actions can be taken to manage them from a nutrient perspective. It gives principle-based guidance on supplying fertiliser nutrients rather than providing blanket management actions. The intent is that it allows tailoring of advice to specific farm conditions.
The Code was launched at an event in Wellington on 13 March, attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon Damien O’Connor.
