Herbicide resistance is an increasing threat to New Zealand cropping systems. Join FAR, Mette Sonderskov (Aarhus University) and other industry speakers or a practical one-day workshop aimed at rural professionals (but open to all), exploring the latest herbicide resistance surveillance results, integrated weed management strategies, and emerging technologies to help future-proof your farming business.
Hear from leading New Zealand and international experts and take away practical tools to develop an effective weed management plan, reduce reliance on herbicides, and protect crop productivity.
Programme of speakers for this workshop
The cost of weeds and herbicide resistance to cropping farmers in Australia, Jackie Ouzman (Adelaide University).
How do Danish cropping farmers intergrate non-chemical weed control tactics into their weed management programmes, Mette Sonderskov (Aarhus University).
The status of Herbicide Resistance in cropping systems in New Zealand, Zach Ngow, (BSI AgResearch Group).
Putting your IWM/ herbicide resistance plan into action: Herbicide resistance can begin before planting, Chris Buddenhagen (BSI AgResearch Group).
Putting your IWM/ herbicide resistance plan into action: Mapping your weeds, Chris Smith (FAR).
Putting your IWM/ herbicide resistance plan into action: Strateguies for managing herbicide resistance risk in fencelines, Charles Merfield (Merfield Consulting).
And panel discussion and machinery display in the carpark.
Mette Sønderskov (Aarhus University)
Mette Sønderskov has worked with integrated weed management since beginning her Ph.D. at Aarhus University in 2008. Her research spans herbicide efficacy, the integration of non chemical weed control tactics, the use of decision support systems, and effective communication of IWM to advisors and farmers.
Her work with decision support systems focuses on practical tools for farmers, including selecting optimal herbicide treatments (Crop Protection Online) and understanding how cropping strategies can delay resistance development (DK RIM, Integrated Management for Ryegrass in Denmark).
