Thursday 19 November, 6pm - 9pm, Dunsandel Rugby Club
BBQ 6pm, meeting to start at 6:30pm
New dairy sheds are the talk of the town, but what does this mean for growers who will continue producing arable crops?
Join us for an in-depth look at the scale of land use change occurring across Canterbury and the implications for the demand and supply of grain, maize, straw and winter feed. How are these products being used on dairy farms today? What drives purchasing decisions? And where do the opportunities lie for arable businesses in a changing farming landscape?
Charlotte Senior (Agri Intel) and Nick Tait (DairyNZ) will present data on supplement use, land use change and the likely impacts on supply & demand for arable products.
Industry leaders will then share their perspectives on key questions:
What production value do arable products deliver to dairy farmers? Neville Pendergast (Advanced Feed)
What makes a dairy farmer buy grain, what makes them stop buying grain? John Donkers (Dairy Consultant, DFMS)
What is driving dairy farmers decisions around winter feed crops? Stu Taylor (Dairy Farmer & GM Farming Craigmore Sustainables)
How can dairy wintering be successfully integrated into an arable rotation? John McCaw (NZ Arable Farmer of the Year)
The evening will conclude with a panel discussion exploring what opportunities exists between arable and dairy as landuse continues to evolve.
A BBQ will be provided for growers to start the evening. Please RSVP for catering purposes.
