  • Mid Canterbury White Clover Winter Weed Management Field Day

Events Mid Canterbury White Clover Winter Weed Management Field Day

FAR x SIRC
Field Day Mid-Canterbury

Wednesday 13 August, 11am - 2:30pm

Morning Session – 11 am - 12:30pm

Hosted by Ron and Ian Hydes, FAR's Sean Weith and will explore herbicide options for managing broadleaf weeds in establishing first-year white clover seed crops. Trial results will demonstrate how the timing of winter applications influences herbicide performance and effectiveness across different growth stages.

Afternoon session 1pm - 2:30pm

Hosted by Ian Maw, FAR's Sean Weith, will focus specifically on early winter herbicide options for controlling sow thistle, a persistent and problematic weed in white clover seed crops. The trial showcases how product choice and application timing can significantly affect the success of winter weed management strategies.

Across both sessions, FAR Researcher Owen Gibson and SIRC Technical Advisor Phil Rolston will provide additional guidance on canopy management, spring nitrogen strategies and other key agronomic decisions to support high-yielding white clover crops. Each session will also conclude with a general Q&A, offering attendees the chance to raise questions, discuss observations, and seek advice on other agronomic challenges or interests relevant to their own operations.
